. . . many hearts, many minds, one future

The Delta Strategy arranges community events that help bring people together to work on community issues. Each year we hold a Community Work Session and we schedule special events to introduce the community to important ideas and the leaders who present them.

Community Work Session
Feb. 12, 2007

The Delta Stategy, The Economic Club and Leadership Grand Rapids partnered to bring Suzanne Morse to Grand Rapids to speak at our Community Work Session. She is the author of Smart Communities: How Citizens and Local Leaders Can Use Strategic Thinking to Build a Brighter Future. Her keynote address to over 600 attendees will be available online in the coming month.   Community Counts: the 2005/06 Community Report Card also debuted at the event.

Over 200 individuals participated in the afternoon worksession which focused on three pressing community issues: Youth Development, Health Care Disparities and Workforce Development.  Notes from the breakout sessions are now available along with the Keynote Address by Dr Morse. We look forward to working with our community on next steps for each of these issues.

During the worksession, individuals were asked to join dialogue discussions in areas that they were interested in.  Each group worked through a series of questions as to what they thought the main issues were, who and what they saw working in our community for change and what they envisioned as tangible next steps or solutions.  Notes from the individual groups have been compiled into a Forcefield Analysis format and are available as .pdf downloads below.

Youth Development (safe places, caring adults & kids learning)
Workforce Development (career preperation & unemployed and displaced workers)
Health Care Disparities (access, prevention and care)

Delta Strategy Community Work Session 2005

We Gotta Move

The Greater Grand Rapids community is at a turning point of great risk and great opportunity.
Globalization is challenging economic stability, population shifts are challenging cultural dynamics,
major institutions are struggling to meet increasing demands with decreasing funds, and traditional approaches to solving community problems are not producing desired results. The purpose of Work Session 2005 is to catalyze a next generation of positive change in the Greater Grand Rapids community.
