WST 200: Introduction to Women’s Studies is an interdisciplinary
introduction to Women’s
Studies and explores the broad dimensions, principles, and theories of the field
by investigating
the shaping of gender roles, behaviors, and expectations as evidenced in
literature, social sciences, natural sciences, religion and philosophy. The
course enhances students’ critical awareness of how gender operates in
institutional and cultural contexts and in their own lives. This course welcomes

COM 235: Gender and Communication. This course focuses on the many factors that influence how women and men communicate. These factors include biology, socialization, family, and media. We will discuss how our communication styles impact our educational environment and the workplace. Increased awareness will lead to greater understanding and greater personal effectiveness, both personally and professionally. This course is open to all students who have successfully completed (C or better) COM 135. EN 278: Women’s Literature. EN 278 is an introduction
to literature by women writers in
which students may study various genres, historical periods, classes, races, and
nationalities. The
course explores the variety of writing styles women have used to think about
issues such as the
search for identity, power, societal roles, relationships and conflict,
marriage, sexuality, treatment
as the other, responses to patriarchy, achievement, and daily life. The
instructor will help
students think about the impact of gender on literature, expression, and
.experience. EN 278 is
open to all students who have successfully completed EN 101 or its equivalent.
