Can we grant Teacher Certification?
GRCC is not a certification granting institution. We assist you in preparing for transfer to a college or university that is licensed to grant you your teaching credentials.
How is special education different than regular education?
Special education training is an option for students that extends your qualifications beyond elementary or secondary certification. It requires additional coursework at the university level. The licensing allows you to work with a variety of special needs populations, depending on your training.
Which schools offer the best programs after I leave GRCC?
The transfer institutions vary significantly in entry level requirements and degree qualifications. It is vital for you to explore the advantages of each college/university and how they are aligned to your interests and needs.
What courses should I be taking while I am at GRCC to maximize my planning?
The college catalog has a sample template of coursework that is recommended by many of the transfer schools. It would be a good starting point to review these. From there, be sure to see a counselor for the specific school you are interested in and their exact requirements.
What is the Multicultural Support Services Program?
This division of our Teacher Education program offers information on classes, seminars, and conferences that focus on multiculturalism. Diversity will be broadly defined, so not only will you learn about race and ethnicity, but about other aspects as well, such as disability and learning style. Speakers will come in to present seminars and there could be experience opportunities at sites that would give you first hand experience in working with diverse populations. Since most colleges and universities require coursework in diversity, this will give you an early introduction to the variety of students that you will encounter in your future classrooms.
Are there any scholarships available?
There are several scholarships available for students interested in Teaching. These scholarships are applied for through the Financial Aid Office. They are awarded once a year and range from $200.00 to $1600.00. Applications are available in January and are due in March of each year. Contact the Education Office for more information.
