GRAND RAPIDS COLLEGE CHANNEL TO REACH NEW AUDIENCES
THROUGHOUT WEST MICHIGAN
First Local Access Channel On At&T Uverse Cable

August 5, 2008 Grand Rapids, MI – Subscribers to AT&T Uverse cable can now view the Grand Rapids College Channel, operated by Grand Rapids Community College, from anywhere in West Michigan. It will be the first channel of its kind locally to be transmitted in this new combined internet and television service.

The college channel has served the local community since1986 with popular programming including GRCC Diversity Lecture Series, Calvin College’s January Series and Cooking with Angus, as well as speakers on the environment, government and the arts.

First available on Comcast channel 28, followed by the addition of digital channel 902, the upgrade to AT&T Uverse allows subscribers across West Michigan to view college programming by tuning to Channel 99 and simply selecting their city.

“We wanted to make sure that whatever television system a community member chooses, local College Channel content continues to be available,” said Klaas Kwant, Media Production Manager at GRCC. “We have been fortunate to be able to reach the community through Comcast for many years, and now we want to continue to expand our reach on new systems.”

The Grand Rapids College Channel will continue to be broadcast on Comcast’s cable system, carrying telecourses and local content from Aquinas College, Calvin College, Kendall College of Art and Design, Ferris State University - Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Community College, Michigan State University’s Cooperative Extension and Grand Valley State University.

Live video stream of the current schedule and archives of programs aired over the last five years are available online at www.grcc.tv
Grand Rapids Community College, established in 1914, offers both liberal arts and workforce development degrees, certification and workshops. Student enrollment for both credit and non-credit courses reached 26,000 in the 2007-08 academic year.
