Grand Rapids Community College
Inclement Weather Procedure
Listen to the radio for information
Grand Rapids Community College rarely closes the downtown campus. If GRCC cancels day classes, radio
announcements will so indicate after 6 am The canceling of classes on the main campus during the day does not mean
that evening classes are also canceled. Evening cancellations will be announced by 3 pm, also by radio. Listen carefully
to the message given on the radio announcement, as it will say “Day” or “Evening” in its text.
Local school district closings
When local school districts cancel classes based on weather conditions in their areas there may be some confusion on
the part of students and faculty. If you are taking a class at a site off-campus that has reported that they will close, your
class will be canceled also. Call GRCC at 616-234-4230, if you are not sure if the building you are in off-campus is
closed. Again, a school district closing does not mean there is a GRCC main campus closing.
Closing during the weekend
Weekend closings, Saturday and Sunday classes, will also be announced on the radio. For Saturday and Sunday
classes, cancellation will be announced by 6:30 am. The Campus Police office will also have this information and can
be reached at 616-234-4010 by 7 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. An Academic Dean will notify faculty members by 7:30
am if weekend classes are called off.
