Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have a specific question to use in the lab?
No, you can use the lab as a study area, or to work in small groups. When you have a question, we try to help.

Do I need to make an appointment?
No, the lab is run on a first come, first serve basis.

Is the lab equipped with computers?
Yes, the lab has 12 computers.

Are the lab computers set up to run MAPLE?
Yes and we have other specialized science-math programs such as MATHCAD available.

What tools should I bring?
Bring your textbook and class notes, pen or pencil and a calculator to the lab. We provide scratch paper.

Do I have to use the practice handouts in the lab itself?
No, once you sign in you may pick up any handouts and leave. The solutions are very detailed so they will help you when you are working at home.

For what purpose do you use the sign in sheet?
We use the sign in sheet to keep track of lab usage. We want to know which times of the day are busiest and which classes use the lab most frequently. This helps us assess out staffing needs.

What is the difference between the Advanced Lab and the Math Lab?
The Advanced Lab restricts math coverage to the calculus classes. The Math Lab in Rm 111 North handles all of the other math courses. Also, the Advanced Lab deals with the physical sciences (Physics and Chemistry). The Math Lab deals only with math.
