Grand Rapids Community College Expands Training and Accessibility With Lakeshore Link

November 25, 2003, Grand Rapids, MI - To better serve the West Michigan business market – and lakeshore students -  Grand Rapids Community College has hired its first full-time director, Dan Clark,  for the college’s Thompson M-TEC® in Holland, Michigan.

Inspired by his “love for education,” Clark plans to maximize the use of the facility by expanding offerings at the site and making college classes and training courses easily accessible.

“We can relate to the needs of lakeshore businesses because we are right here and understand the market. We can offer training for their employees that really meets their needs – at our facility or theirs, customized courses or generalized, for college credit or not.”

We’ll also start offering basic college courses here for students that want to avoid the commute to Grand Rapids and those parking delays. Our customers, - students or businesses - can just zoom in here on the expressway and park anywhere.”

GRCC’s Holland M-TEC, one of the state’s many Michigan Technology Centers, and the first of GRCC’s two M-TECs, is at the intersection of US-31 and Port Sheldon Rd.  It was opened in 2000.

The Holland based facility currently offers open enrollment/open ended classes which provide training to students in a structured setting without the restriction of semester deadlines.  Clark says he will continue to work closely with the Careerline Tech Center across the street to coordinate classes.

One of my primary goals is to learn the structure of the community college and collaborate with our Ottawa Area ISD in developing a system that will better strengthen the outreach of GRCC,” says Clark.

A father of two, and current Holland resident, Clark has over 20 years in the West Michigan industry and training fields serving as manager of training as well as focus factory manager for Pridgeon and Clay before coming to GRCC.

Grand Rapids Community College, established in 1914, offers both liberal arts and workforce development degrees, as well as certification programs and workshops. Student enrollment on the urban campus for both credit and non-credit courses averages 25,000 per year.
