Olivia Margo Anderson was elected to the Board of Trustees of Grand Rapids Community College in June 2001. Her term expires in June 2013. She was elected Vice Chairperson and served as Diversity Liaison and Liaison for the Academic Quality Improvement Project (AQIP) for the 2007-09 term. Ms. Anderson currently serves at the Board Chairperson for the 2009-2011 term.

Ms. Anderson attended Grand Rapids Junior College and then matriculated to Western Michigan University and completed a B.S. degree. She also holds three Masters degrees from Western Michigan University; an M.A. in Elementary Education; an M.A. in Counseling and Personnel; and an M.A. in Educational Leadership with an endorsement from the State in administration. She retired in June 2000 from the Grand Rapids Public Schools after 32 years of service. Her career included being a teacher, high school counselor, assistant principal and elementary principal.

Her community involvement includes Member and Trustee at First Community AME Church; member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc (past president); board member YWCA, Women’s History Council member, Leadership Grand Rapids, and Heart of West Michigan United Way Project Blueprint.

Her recognitions include the Giants Award (Phyllis Scott Activist), Outstanding Educator Award, Lee Honors College, WMU, and induction into Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society (Mu Opnicron Chapter, WMU).
