Terri A. Handlin was elected to the founding Board of Trustees of Grand Rapids Community College in February 1991. In June 2001, she was re-elected for an additional six year term. She served as Treasurer of the Board and Chairperson of the Finance Committee from 1997 to 1999. She served on the Presidential Search Committee and as Secretary of the Board from July 1991 to June 30, 1997, and again from 1999 to 2001. Terri’s current term expires on June 30, 2013. Ms. Handlin is a retired teacher and administrator of Forest Hills Public Schools. She earned an Associate in Arts degree from GRJC, a Bachelor of Arts degree in business education at Western Michigan University, a Master of Arts degree in occupational-vocational education at the University of Michigan and a Master of Arts degree in educational administration at Michigan State University. Her community activities include past-president of the GRJC Alumni Association. She served for six years on the Girl Scouts of Michigan Trails Board, as well as the Board of Women's History Council, for which she served as the Co-Chairperson for Legacy 2000. She is also actively involved in a variety of activities for the American Association of University Women. As a member of the Chamber of Commerce, she serves on the Business and Workforce Development Committee and has been chosen the Volunteer of the Month twice. In 1999, Terri was honored as the alumni recipient of the GRCC Salute to Women Award. Terri is also a consultant for education, career development, and diversity. Her company, T. A. Handlin, LLC, has been awarded the consultant contract for Workpaths.com through the Workforce Development Board. Terri has earned her Michigan Career Development Facilitator Credentials and works with career development issues as part of her consulting business. She is a trained facilitator for the Institute for Healing Racism and is very involved in area-wide diversity issues. Terri is married to Michael B. Handlin, and they reside in Grand Rapids. |
