Michael A. Stearns was elected to the Board of
Trustees of Grand Rapids Community College in June 1999. His term expires in
June 2011. He currently serves on the Evaluation of the President Ad Hoc
Committee, the Future Funding Ad Hoc Committee, and is the Workforce
Development Liaison for the Board.
Stearns is Superintendent of Northview Public
Schools. He has also served as an elementary principal and an assistant
superintendent for Northview. Before coming to Northview, Stearns served
four years as an elementary principal in Cedar Springs. For seventeen years
he was employed by the Grand Rapids Public Schools. During those years he
served as a teacher, consultant, and elementary principal. Stearns is a
graduate of Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana and has a Master’s Degree
from Columbia University in New York City. Stearns received his
Doctorate of Education degree at Eastern Michigan University.
Stearns serves on several community organizations
including the Kent/Allegan Counties Workforce Development Board, the Kent
Intermediate School District’s Superintendent’s Association, and the Northview Education Foundation. Improving the quality of life in the Grand
Rapids area for all of its citizens is a deep commitment on his part. Mike
is especially proud to serve on the GRCC Board of Trustees because of his
strong belief that GRCC serves as a vital link to opportunity for so many
citizens of our community.
Mike and his wife Mary have two children, Emily 27 and
Tom 30. |
