Academic Foundations Program

The Academic Foundations Program is a cluster of courses designed to strengthen the academic skills of entering college students who are identified as having the potential for academic success but who are under prepared for college-level work. Classes in reading, writing, mathematics, and adjustment to college are available through this program. For more information contact Linda Spoelman at lspoelma@grcc.edu or 234-4385.

English as a Second Language

GRCC’s English as a Second Language Program offers courses in speaking, reading, and writing English to students whose first language is not English. Courses in the program help students build their skills with the English language so that they can reach their personal, professional, and academic goals. Lake Michigan Writing Project

The Lake Michigan Writing Project, housed at Grand Valley State University, gathers teachers from the local community to share best writing practices and their own writing. The Project aims to connect writing teachers at all levels, from kindergarten through college. GRCC English Department faculty are regular contributors to the Project, which is West Michigan's official site of the National Writing Project. The Shakespeare Project

The Shakespeare Project is a comprehensive website developed and primarily maintained for English 252 (Shakespeare) and English 235 (drama) students. Please email David Cope (dcope@grcc.edu ) if you need help navigating the site.

Women’s Studies Project

Several English Department professors have taken the lead in building a team that will develop an interdisciplinary Women's Studies Program at Grand Rapids Community College.
