Grand Rapids Community College is committed to maintaining a learning community of employees committed to affirming diversity and respect for all. As we move toward achieving our newly adopted mission and vision, our progress will be measured according to our eight ends … one that is Diversity. The Diversity end states, “We promote an understanding of diversity for all people in a quality, respectful, motivating environment.” We must continue to focus our efforts on innovation, creativity, diversity and collaboration, to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning for all those who take advantage of our services.

This letter is to remind all staff that Grand Rapids Community College we must recruit, retain and grow, a highly diverse student body, faculty, and staff, as we do not condone and will not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or intimidation toward any individual in the College community for any reason. GRCC’s “Non-discrimination and Civil Rights Policy” describes our commitment to providing equality of opportunity in education and employment for all students and employees without regard to race, color, religion, sexual orientation, political persuasion, gender, age, national origin, height, weight, marital status, disability, or status as a Vietnam Era veteran in any of its educational programs, activities and services.

We all are expected to carry out and continue to share responsibility for creating an environment that recognizes the inherent worth and dignity of every person; fosters tolerance, sensitivity, understanding, and mutual respect among its constituents; and encourages each individual to strive to reach his or her own potential. It is extremely important that GRCC demonstrate its intellectual and ethical leadership by affirming its strong position against discrimination, including, “valuing diversity and respect for all people.”
