ALEKS Placement Scores

ALEKS Placement, Preparation and Learning (ALEKS PPL)

ALEKS Placement, Preparation and Learning’s (ALEKS PPL) provides insight into what each student knows and is ready to learn with a single personalized, open-response assessment. To provide equity to students, each student has the opportunity to brush up on their mathematics skills in our Math Prep and Learning Lab or on their own. After a student is confident that they have sufficiently reviewed topics to refresh their prior knowledge, they can retake the assessment for a new placement.

ALEKS is an artificially intelligent learning and assessment system that has been used by over 25 million students for
Math, Chemistry, Statistics and Accounting. After quickly and accurately determining each student's precise knowledge
of a subject, ALEKS helps the student work on the topics they are ready to learn.

Mathematics Pathways

Math Pathways encourages students to enroll in and complete 100-level courses in their first academic year by providing options that are relevant to a student's program of study. In general, mathematics "pathways" refers to sequences of courses or other learning opportunities that foster a students' mathematical development according to their interests.

Corequisites

Students who obtain ALEKS PPL scores from 7 to 29 are placed into two mathematics courses, that is, a 100-level
mathematics course and a corequisite course which Integrates student learning supports to help students acquire
knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the 100-level coursework. To reduce the number of semesters needed for
the completion of math requirements, corequisites provide additional academic support assisting students in
completion of the corresponding 100-level course.

Placement on Math Pathways

The last course in each column is the last course on the pathway. Many students on the pathway to calculus will take additional mathematics course which may include MA 134, 245, 250, 255, 257, 259. For more information, see Placement on Math Pathways chart.
