Online Advising Guidelines
The Counseling and Career Center Faculty at Grand Rapids Community College believe that in-person advising is preferable to email advising but recognize that often it is more convenient to ask a question via email than to make an appointment. We offer "Online Advising" as a service and as a supplement to meeting with a counselor in person.

Guidelines to keep in mind:
-
We offer email advising as a service to supplement our person to person interaction.
-
To protect your privacy, do not include your social security number with your email question. We will not send information regarding your personal record via email. (see FERPA Rights Notification).
-
Provide relevant information, such as your major or intended major or where you intend to transfer, in order to assist the advisor in answering your question.
-
Be as specific as you can. The more vague your question, the harder it will be to give you a useful answer via email.
-
Allow a reasonable amount of time for a counselor to reply. Your question may, however, require some research in order to provide a thorough answer. Counselors strive to return your messages promptly, but due to school breaks and volume of office traffic there may be a delay in responding to your email message.
