Welcome to the Blackboard Tutorial set page; Organized into four sets according to ease-of-use and popularity. Here you’ll find the more commonly used tools, also the best starting point for people that are just getting started, all the way to the more advanced and less familiar functions that aren’t necessarily used as heavily. Set 1

Here's perfect place to start. The five functions below will get you familiar and comfortable within Blackboard and you'll progress from there.
Gradebook
One of Blackboards most popular features, get started storing student performance results in the Gradebook; what's more, scores from assessments delivered through Blackboard are automatically recorded in the Gradebook!
The Gradebook supports custom grading scales, grade weighting, item analysis, and multiple gradebook views. With the instructor's permission, students can view their own grades (but no one else's) in the course Gradebook. Students LOVE it when their teachers use this feature. [flash movie - 4.5 minutes]
Announcements
Creating an announcement in Blackboard is quick and easy!
Use announcements to welcome your class, notify everyone of a schedule change, give a heads-up on freshly posted material or leave important messages; anything you need to keep your students in the know about! [flash movie - 1.5 minutes]
Office Hours
Posting office hours in Blackboard and keeping them current is a snap!
Making office hour information assessable and convenient in Blackboard encourages students to seek the direction and help they need; knowing when and where to find their professors helps ensure student success. [flash movie - 1 minute ]
Documents
Making course documents available to students via Blackboard saves time, money and paper all while keeping materials convient and accessable to your students 24-7. Syllabus
Distrubuting syllabus to students in your courses with Blackboard is a fast effective way to communicate class objectives and instructor exceptations. Save time and money simply putting a syllabus online for students in your courses to access. No more reprinting, copying, stapling and distributing syllabus on dead trees semester after semester. Assessements and Surveys
Creating tests and quizzes in Blackboard is great way to improve efficiency! Deliver online, automatically-scored assessments and surveys. Create from scratch or draw upon personal, institutional, or commercially-available "test banks" of questions. Use Calculated Formula, Calculated Numeric, Hotspot, Jumbled Sentence, Likert Scale, True/False, Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer, Ordering, Matching, Fill-in-the-Blank, Short Answer, Essay, File Upload, and Binary Choice. Give all questions at once or one at a time, timed or un-timed, and assessments can be setup to be taken multiple times or only once. [flash movie - 5 minutes]
Discussion Board
Discussion Boards are an excellent way to get students involved and sharing their thoughts. Set up multiple forums around different topics that relate to your lessons. There are a lot of options to determine whether students can modify, delete, post anonymously, include attachments, and more. Discussion Boards can be sorted and viewed by thread, author, date, or subject and are completely searchable so you can find what your looking for. Assignements
Create assignments for students to submit within Blackboard and easily track submissions for an entire class with Gradebook! Once submitted, simply grade the assignments and provide feedback for each student to be viewed online as they check grades. The entire assignement workflow has never been easier or more effective. Content Authoring
If you’re comfortable typing up a Word document in Microsoft Word then creating anything within Blackboard will be a snap with the Visual Text Box Editor because what you see is what you get. Including a spell checker the ability to import content created other places by programs like Dreamweaver and Frontpage. [flash movie - 6 minutes]

SET 3

Create & Manage a Course
Using the Course Creation Wizard and Course Templates to set-up courses is fast and effective. Once done, there's no need to ever do it again with tools like Course Copy and Course Recycle; just use the courses you created semester-to-semester simply making a few minor changes! Course Cartridges
All major education publishers create pre-packaged content and course materials in the Blackboard Course Cartridge format to supplement their course textbooks. If you want to use the cartridge in conjuction with your teaching and the text you've selected, this movie will show you how to loud the Course Cartridge into Blackboard. [flash movie - 2 minutes ]
Learning Units
Need to sequence your lessons? Learning Units allows you control whether students must progress through a Learning Unit according to a sequence or have the ability to select individual lessons from the table of contents. Students can save their place in a Learning Unit and return later. [flash movie - 2.5 minutes]
Adaptive Release
Creating a custom learning paths through course content and activities can be a powerful and effect way to structure your teaching and the students learning and Adaptive Release provides the ability to do just that. Mandate content items, discussions, assessments, assignments, or other activities to be released to students based on a set of criteria like: date/time, grade on a particular test or assignment, or whether the user has previously reviewed another piece of content. SET 4

Group Projects
Need to do some peer collaboration in your course? No problem in Blackboard; instructors can use the Groups tool to form groups of students. Each group can be given its own file exchange area, Discussion Board, Virtual Classroom and a Group Email tool to send messages to all group members. Students can belong to multiple groups simultaneously, so an instructor might assign different groups for different assignments or projects. Very cool! [flash movie - 1 minute]

Collaboration Tools
The Collaboration Tool, designed for live interaction, supports a text-based Chat environment, as well as a full Virtual Classroom. Instructors can schedule collaboration sessions using either environment. In addition to text-based chat, the Virtual Classroom provides a collaborative whiteboard, group web browsing (web touring), private question-and-answer, and breakout room capability. It can be run in a Lecture Mode or an Open Participation Mode. Users can "raise their hand" to be called on or given full participation control. All chat sessions can be logged and archived. Teaching and Learning Tools
A variety of tools designed for support of specific teaching or learning activities. Examples include the Glossary, a tool to create sharable, customizable term-definition lists; the Electric Blackboard, an online note-taking tool students can use to take and save notes online as they work through their course materials; and Staff Information, the detailed contact information and office hours for the course instructors and teaching assistants.. Personal Information Management (PIM)
The Performance Dashboard provides a view of student progress and indicates whether students have reviewed specific content items. Content Tracking provides usage statistics (alterable by user or date range) for individual content items. In addition, Course Statistics provides usage data for an entire course. Dashboard
