In the Center for Teaching Excellence, our core mission is developing great teachers. What is involved in great teaching? That could be a LONG answer and different people would answer differently, but here is what we know—teaching involves a constant cycle that includes planning, teaching, and assessing. Teachers plan by developing content and activities, teach by delivering that content effectively, and assess the processes and results around teaching and learning in order to strategically and intentionally make adjustments. Since we know that is the big picture cycle, we built our entire curriculum around those core things—plan, teach, assess. We also know that great teachers are sensitive to the needs of students in their classrooms and that they do all their planning, teaching, and assessing with inclusion in mind.
The primary way we deliver the faculty development curriculum is through learning opportunities. We know that learning can occur in many ways, but around the CTE we use the term learning opportunities, to refer to facilitated workshops and modules. Many of our learning opportunities are face-to-face workshops, but we also offer modules online in which participants complete work that is checked by a facilitator.
