GRCC Launches Web-Based Degree Audit Program to Better Aid Students on Graduation Path

September 27, 2012, GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Grand Rapids Community College plans to implement My Degree Path on October 15, 2012. My Degree Path is a web-based tool designed to help students stay on a clear path to graduation.  Using the tool students, faculty and staff will be able to see the same information in the same format 24/7.

According to Erin Busscher, Transfer & Articulation Coordinator, My Degree Path will enable students and advisors to review the students’ coursework – past, present, and future – and perform a graduation audit.  “The audit will evaluate a student’s degree requirements to let them know which  have been completed and which remain to be completed, giving students real-time updates on where they stand on their path to graduation,” said Busscher

The My Degree Path tool will provide GRCC students important real-time advice by giving them the ability to:

  • Outline a path to graduation for a specific GRCC program
  • Create a semester by semester degree plan
  • Explore GRCC programs using “what if” scenarios
  • Calculate GPAs depending on what grades students anticipate earning

Counselors and advisors will also benefit by being better equipped to serve students with My Degree Path by:

  • Providing real-time delivery of academic information
  • Helping to minimize errors through consistency
  • Reducing paperwork and manual program checks

According to John Cowles, Associate Dean of Counseling, Advising & Retention, in addition to academic counselors, “classroom faculty will be able to use My Degree Path to more easily advise students for program completion and transfer."   Busccher added that many of the four-year institutions that GRCC has articulation agreements with – and that many GRCC students transfer to each year – also utilize this program.  “This adds even more value to the My Degree Path tool for our students,” she said.
