GRCC President Receives High Marks in Annual Board Evaluation

The Grand Rapids Community College Board of Trustees released its evaluation of college president Steven C. Ender today, concluding that it “endorses the accomplishments this past year of President Ender.”

“We are very pleased with Dr. Ender’s accomplishments over the course of this past year, and his ongoing vision for the College,” said Trustee Richard Verburg, who chaired the Ad-Hoc Committee for the President's Evaluation.  “His future thinking’, concern for the college’s students, faculty and staff, and his commitment to helping us meet the needs of the west Michigan community have resulted in great things for GRCC.”

Among Ender’s accomplishments cited in the committee’s evaluation were:

• Formal partnerships with Lawrence Technology University and Northwood University
• 40% growth  Fall 2010 online and hybrid course enrollment
• Record high Winter semester enrollment
• The unveiling of the DeVos campus, allowing GRCC to serve more students
• Over $30 million in Michigan New Job Training Program agreements finalized
• Ender’s  leadership with the Michigan Community College Association through his work on the MCCA Strategic Planning Committee and MCCA Legislative Committee

According to Verburg, the committee looked at a number of areas in evaluating Ender, among them Student Success, Academic Alignment, Community Outreach and Workforce Training.    “President Ender’s performance in these – and in all the critical areas – are a strong indicator of his commitment to aligning the work of the College with local, regional and global needs…and to getting us closer to the important College of Distinction status.”

“I am truly gratified,”” said Ender.  “Everyone at GRCC has worked hard and I’m proud of what we have all accomplished.”  He added, “But we have plenty more to do, and I’m looking forward to another challenging and productive year at GRCC.”
