Grand Rapids Community College is taking applications for its annual Distinguished Alumni Award presented annually at the college’s commencement ceremonies.
The award honors a GRCC/JC alumnus who has achieved substantial public recognition for his/her accomplishments or successes. Previous honorees include Dr. James V. Buzzitta, Founder of Michigan Medical P.C.; Janice L. Maggini, GRCC Board of Trustees (1991-2011), and Retired Administrator with Wyoming Public Schools; the Honorable Sara J. Smolenski, Chief Judge, 63rd District Court in Grand Rapids; and David Custer, chair of the GRCC Foundation and president of Custer, Inc.
To be eligible for nomination, the nominee should have:
- Earned 30 or more credit hours from GRCC/JC, and
- Earned the respect and trust of his/her associates in his/her chosen field, or
- Made substantial contributions to the good of his/her fellow human beings or be recognized as an outstanding practitioner of his/her profession or vocation, or
- Served as a motivational force for others in a positive manner.
Nominations are due March 1, 2012, and can be obtained at the GRCC Foundation office in the College Park Plaza building on campus, or by visitinggrcc.edu/distinguishedalumni.
Grand Rapids Community College, established in 1914, offers opportunities for over 30,000 students annually in degree courses, certification and training programs, workshops and personal enrichment classes.
