October 16, 2013 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids Community College’s Older Learner Center will feature an expert in “encore” careers. Encore careers refers to the effort to create and match people with jobs that combine personal meaning, continued income and social impact in the second half of life.
Marci Alboher, author of The Encore Career Handbook: How to Make a Living and a Difference in the Second Half of Life, will give two talks tomorrow, Oct. 17 at the Salvation Army Kroc Center, 2500 S. Division Ave.
The first talk, from 10-11:30 a.m., called The Encore Career Handbook - A Nuts And Bolts Guide For The Encore Transition, is geared to those interested in advancing the encore movement. The second talk, from 1-2:30 p.m., How To Make A Living And A Difference In The Second Half Of Life, is a community event intended for a general audience. Media are welcome to attend. These talks are currently at capacity - no further registrations are being taken.
Community members interested in exploring encore careers are invited to the Oct. 18 Community Resource & Senior Volunteer Fair from 10 a.m. to noon in the Grand Rapids Public Library’s main branch, 111 Library St. NE. The free event will include more than 25 agencies as well as refreshments.
