Orientation Information for Online and Hybrid Students – Fall 2011

Online learning provides great flexibility in continuing your education by providing you an opportunity to schedule your coursework around your busy life. While there is great flexibility, the courses are just as rigorous as traditional face to face courses and you will need to be highly self-motivated and disciplined to ensure that your assignments and course requirements are completed on time.

Please take a moment to review the remainder of this letter to ensure you start off your semester on the right track.

IF YOU’RE NEW TO BOTH BLACKBOARD® AND ONLINE LEARNING…
We encourage you to attend a “Basics of Blackboard” session offered through the ATC (Applied Technology Center) Open Computer Lab. A schedule of available training sessions are available here: http://www.grcc.edu/orientations This session is designed to help you navigate the Blackboard system which is used as the “online classroom” for your course. There is also a self-paced online Blackboard orientation available if you feel comfortable with Blackboard and are unable to attend a face to face session. This orientation course is available in Blackboard and you will see this course after logging into the Blackboard system at: http://bb.grcc.edu

We also recommend that you review the online orientation video as well as GRCC’s Online Readiness site at: http://www.grcc.edu/readiness This website and video is designed to help you become ready to begin your first online course experience.

Finally, your instructor may also provide you with additional orientation information regarding your course in either a face to face session, or online, during the first week of classes.

IF YOU’RE FAMILIAR WITH BLACKBOARD®, BUT NEW TO ONLINE LEARNING…
We highly encourage you to review the orientation video as well as GRCC’s Online Readiness site at: http://www.grcc.edu/readiness This website and video is designed to help you become ready to begin your first online course experience. Your instructor may also provide you with additional orientation information regarding your course in either a face to face session, or online, during the first week of classes.

IF YOU’RE ALREADY FAMILIAR WITH BLACKBOARD® AND ONLINE LEARNING…
If you’re an experienced online student, we hope you have a great semester and online learning experience. Your instructor may also provide you with additional orientation information regarding your course in either a face to face session, or online, during the first week of classes.
