February 8, 2013 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A longtime area resident with broad experience in fundraising, management, capital campaigns, and strategic planning has been selected to serve as Associate Vice President for Advancement/Executive Director for the GRCC Foundation.

Donald MacKenzie, a senior principal with Chicago-based Jerold Panas, Linzy & Partners, plans to build stronger relationships with donors, alumni, and friends of GRCC as he takes the helm of the almost 50-year-old foundation.

“I’m excited to join the GRCC Foundation and help it support the college’s mission of equipping students to meet the needs of the community and the world,” said Mr. MacKenzie, a Rockford resident.

Mr. MacKenzie has a strong background in philanthropy and fundraising, with ties to both the academic and corporate worlds.

He is an adjunct professor at Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University in the Master of Business Administration Program. He was the managing partner of MacKenzie Consultants, and as leadership gifts director of Spectrum Health’s Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation, he served as campaign director of the For Our Kids Campaign, which raised $100 million for the pediatric hospital. Other previous positions include executive director of Junior Achievement of Kalamazoo and Van Buren Counties and director of planned and estate giving for the Western Michigan University Foundation.

“Don MacKenzie’s background and experience make him a perfect fit to lead the GRCC Foundation,” said President Dr. Steven C. Ender.

The GRCC Foundation has assets of more than $30 million and awarded $530,000 in scholarships during the 2011-2012 academic year. In addition to student scholarships and grants, funds are provided each year for instructional improvement and staff professional development efforts.

Grand Rapids Community College, established in 1914, offers opportunities for over 30,000 students annually in degree courses, certification and training programs, workshops and personal enrichment classes. GRCC holds classes on the downtown Grand Rapids campus as well as several additional locations throughout Kent and Ottawa counties.
