February 6, 2013 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids Community College is marking National Digital Learning Day by celebrating its college YouTube channel exceeding 2 million views.

Established in 2007, the channel — — is co-managed by GRCC’s Information Technology, Media and Distance Learning and Instructional Technologies departments and is a repository for the college’s instruction, events and promotions.

“The popularity of the college’s YouTube channel has grown significantly over the years, and it provides a motivating, engaging, relevant, and an extremely effective way to deliver digital learning resources to our students on campus, those taking online courses, and the global community,” said Eric Kunnen, Director of Distance Learning and Instructional Technologies at GRCC.

Among the most popular GRCC TV programs:

  • a lecture by Professor Frank Conner on the Psychology of Love (approximately 230,000 views).
  • "10 Tips for Studying Anatomy” by biology Professor Paul Krieger (over 97,000 views).
  • a construction clip on placing floor trusses (over 51,000 views).

One program — adjunct instructor Jeff Kieliszweski’s presentation on forensic psychology — recently drew interest from the Discovery Channel. Dr. Kieliszweski spent part of last summer being filmed as a content expert for “Brainwashed,” which aired on the Discovery Channel on October 28.

“We’re proud to support students with digital, online content as well as provide the community a window into the activities at their community’s college,” said Kevin O’Halla, chief information officer with GRCC’s Information Technology Department.

Digital Learning Day is February 6. It is a national campaign that celebrates teachers and shines a spotlight on successful instructional practice and the use of technology in classrooms across the country. More information is available at
