Press release: New logo to mark Grand Rapids Community College’s 100th anniversary

December 4, 2012  GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Grand Rapids Community College unveiled  a new logo to mark its 100th anniversary year.  The new look accompanies a long-standing GRCC tradition: engaging the community.
Allison Supron’s design was picked from 25 finalists who were selected by a panel of judges from among more than 200 entries. She will receive $500 and her logo will be used throughout the 2014-15 academic year.

But Facebook fans didn’t just elevate Allison to the top of the logo contest.  Every vote for 24 hours, from noon on Nov. 9 to noon on Nov. 10, meant a $1 donation to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts - GRCC donated $1,000 to the American Red Cross.

Allison, a junior majoring in graphic design at Grand Valley State University, is an intern at that school’s Promotions Office. A Marquette High School graduate, she plans to study abroad in London this summer with GVSU’s Art Department.

The other top finishers in the logo contest were:
•    Stephen Dobrzynski,  second-place finalist, will receive $250.
•    Emma Durernay, third-place finalist, will receive $100.
•    Amanda Cook, Caleb Van Dyke and Janelle Krupa received an honorable mention and will each get a $50 gift card.

Grand Rapids Community College, established in 1914, offers opportunities for over 30,000 students annually in degree courses, certification and training programs, workshops and personal enrichment classes. GRCC holds classes on the downtown Grand Rapids campus as well as several additional locations throughout Kent and Ottawa counties.
