Ten GRCC business students placed in the Michigan Business Professionals of America (BPA) Competition at Northwood University in Midland on February 11.
Seven colleges and universities attended the competition including GRCC, Central Michigan University, Baker College, Northern Michigan University, Northwood University, Montcalm Community College and Davenport University.
The five first place winners from GRCC - winning in four different categories at the competition - were Samantha See, Alexi Bettig, David Colbert, Dominick Sheridan and Mackenzie Sheridan. The students won in three individual categories and one team category: Advanced Word Processing, Digital Media Production, Interview Skills and Video Production Team.
“The energy and professionalism of our students was so impressive. The students represented GRCC extremely well,” said Assistant Professor Peg Schoenborn.
All ten students who placed in the competition have the opportunity to move on to the National BPA competition April 25-29 in Chicago. The competition draws nearly 6,000 secondary and post-secondary competitors from all over the US.
Fifteen of GRCC’s active BPA members also qualified for a $3,000 transfer scholarship to Davenport University or a $1,500 transfer scholarship to Northwood University at the competition.
Other GRCC students who placed in the competition include Scott Degraaf, Reinier Fontaine-Perez, Jacob Golden, Caleb Heikoop and Nicole Dekker.
Grand Rapids Community College, established in 1914, offers opportunities for over 30,000 students annually in degree courses, certification and training programs, workshops and personal enrichment classes. GRCC holds classes on the downtown Grand Rapids campus as well as several additional locations throughout Kent and Ottawa counties.
