Fátima Nieves MA

Professor/Academic Advisor

Fátima is originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico where she received her BA at the University of the Sacred Heart. Her MA is from the University of Michigan. Her over 30 years of experience include elementary teaching, TRIO/Upward Bound Coordinator and TRIO/Student Support Services Director. She is currently an Academic Advisor in GRCC's Counseling Center. Advising students of English as a Second Language is one of her primary responsibilities. She is also the department's liaison to the Department of Language and Thought and the University of Michigan.

Fátima believes that academic advising is essential to students' success and that it is more than choosing classes; effective advising  enhances the quality of the students' educational experience.
