Up to $1,600 in Teachers of Tomorrow scholarships are awarded to GRCC students each spring.

GRCC education students,who are currently working in a licenced child care facility and are interested in obtaining an early childhood degree, are also encouraged to apply for the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood MICHIGAN Scholarship.
Teachers of Tomorrow Scholarships
Teachers of Tomorrow Scholarships may only be used at GRCC. Recipients are expected to participate in teacher education opportunities throughout the year, which may inlcude service learning, multicultural programs and education seminars. Recipients must also select a GRCC Faculty Mentor from a pre-approved list and remain in contact with them throughout the academic year.
Phyllis Fratzke Child Development Scholarship
This fund provides monies for students enrolled in the Child Development program at GRCC to use for tuition or for childcare at the GRCC Lab Preschool.
Dr. Linda S. Peters Education Scholarship
The recipient of this scholarship will be a female student who is carrying at least six credits, who intends to earn a baccalaureate degree in education and who intends to teach (at any level). Preference may be given to single mothers.
Lotte Rachel Peters Arts and Humanities Scholarship
The recipient will be a full-time student who intends to major in literature, writing, fine arts, music, art history, music history, foreign language, or in the teaching of any of these. Preference may be given to students in need of financial assistance.
John D. Hanink Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1997, this scholarship fund was created by Barbara Hanink-O'Keefe in memory of her late husband, John D. Hanink. The fund provides annual scholarships to financially deserving students who have achieved a minimum 2.5 GPA. Awards will range from a minimum of $350 to part-time students to a maximum of $2,400 to full-time students. Three $1,600 awards will be designate for Teachers of Tomorrow Scholarship recipients selected by the Teachers of Tomorrow Scholarship selection committee. Each recipient must have displayed a sincere desire to continue his or her education and been recommended by a high school instructor, college faculty member, or the GRCC Directior of Financial Aid. The fund will also provide the Executive Director of the GRCC Foundation $1,600 annually to provide "special needs" grants to deserving students upon recommendations received from faculty members.
Janet and David Paasche Scholarship
Scholarship recipients must be enrolled full-time at GRCC, intend to major in business or education, and have attained a 3.0 GPA minimum. Recipients must also intend to work toward a bachelor's degree in business or education and have been employed, full or part-time during the past 12 months. Awards are renewable based upon review of the recipient's academic performance. Grants may also be available for the purchase of required books for classes at GRCC.
Phillip Runkel Family Teachers of Tomorrow Scholarship
One $1,600 scholarship will be available to a female GRCC student who intends to seek a teaching degree at the elementary or secondary level. Potential recipients must be enrolled full-time, have achieved a 2.8 GPA, be recommended for the award by at least one high school or college instructor, and submit a short essay on why they would like to enter the field of teaching. The Teachers of Tomorrow Scholarship selection committee will identify all recipients.
William J. Sharon Teachers of Tomorrow Scholarship
This renewable scholarship was established to recognize the contributions William Sharon has made to the field of education in the State of Michigan. Recipients will have demonstrated academic excellence in the field of mathematics with the intention of teaching math at the high school or college level. Candidates must also complete a Teachers of Tomorrow Scholarship Essay.
Wege Teachers of Tomorrow Scholarship
The Teachers of Tomorrow Program provides support for freshmen and sophomore students interested in securing an Elementary or Secondary teaching degree. Applicants must submit a one-page essay stating their career goals. Awards are available for both part-time and full-time students.
Women in Science Education Scholarship
Two $300 scholarships will be awarded annually to sophomore women who have demonstrated excellence in studying Chemical, Physical, or Biological Sciences. Recipients must intend to continue their education working towards a career in teaching one of the above areas of science, and must have achieved a minimum 3.5 GPA in their freshman year at GRCC. Applicants must submit a statement of career intent and a transcript from GRCC including address and phone number(s).
Albertus Elve Scholarship
An award will be given each year to a part-time or full-time student of any race, religion, or cultural background who is enrolled in Chemistry.
Kent Association of Retired School Personnel Scholarship
The Kent Association of Retired School Personnel (KARSP) is pleased to be able to offer two (2) one thousand ($1,000) scholarships to students who have graduated from GRCC in good standing and have been accepted at a Michigan university, enrolling in an Education Program.
- The student is enrolled in a teaching transfer program.
- The student is registered for the current semester at GRCC (fall/winter).
- The student has achieved a 3.0 cumulative grade point average
- The student has earned 45 credits at GRCC.
- The student graduated from a high school within the Kent Intermediate School District.
- The applicant has applied to a Michigan four-year university.
- You must submit a letter to the Scholarship Coordinator at the GRCC Financial Aid Office, explaining your reasons for wanting to become a teacher, where accepted for further college work, any past experience that have aided in the decision to become a teacher, and any information that may be of general interest as to why this scholarship should be awarded to you.
