stories, not atoms.” Muriel Rukeyser |

Students in English classes will encounter the work
of historically and culturally significant writers. They will bring to
class the experiences of their generation, the stamp of their own lives,
and the ability to express their own voices. The English Department
guides students in their use of writing and literature as a way to make
sense of experience, to bring order to chaos, to understand self and the
world, and to communicate effectively. When students take classes in the
English Department, they grow their skills in reading, writing, listening,
speaking and thinking in a nurturing and challenging environment. |
