About the Foundation
The Grand Rapids Community College Foundation was established in 1964 at the
50th Anniversary of Grand Rapids Junior College with $12,000 in gifts from
Alumni and friends of the college.
From 1964 to 1978 the Foundation was virtually dormant. In 1978 the college initiated the Foundation’s first five-year campaign to generate funds for student scholarships. Community and staff support during 1979 made it possible
for the Foundation to increase its assets to $28,000 and award 90 scholarships.
Between 2005 and 2008, the GRCC Foundation grew significantly through its
Open Door Campaign.
Today, The GRCC Foundation has assets of over $18 million and awarded a total of $621,318 in scholarships during the
2008-2009 academic year. In addition to student scholarships and grants, funds are provided each year for
instructional improvement and staff professional development efforts. The Foundation board is comprised of members representing community leaders,
professionals, alumni, donors, faculty, staff and students.
The Foundation Office is located on the 1st floor of the College Park Plaza
Building, at the corner of Lyon and Division Streets. The telephone number is
616-234-3939.
