GUIDE TO CAREERS
RaiderCat: the library catalog
The catalog helps you locate things in the GRCC Library. It provides location and call number information for books (online, circulating, and reference), CDs, videotapes, DVDs and magazine titles. If materials aren't available here, you can locate and borrow them using the MeLCat link.
BASIC
A basic search uses general terms that occur anywhere in a catalog record.SUBJECT
Subject headings are specific terms assigned by librarians. Your results will be more precise when you use these words or phrases. Consider the subjects career, professions, labor market, employment forecasting, occupations, vocational guidance, job hunting, and labor supply.KNOWN ITEMS
If you want to find a particular item, you can use the author or title tab to locate it. The elements of a known item search must be typed in exact order without errors.REFERENCE (1st floor; library use only)
Reference Titles provide general background reading on your subject.Occupational Outlook Handbook 331.7 Oc1
Encyclopedia of Careers and Vocational Guidance 331.702 EN19 2003
College Majors And Careers 331.702 P53cm

CIRCULATING BOOKS (check these out for personal use)
You can check out books you find on the second floor. Career-related books begin with call 331.702. When you find that call number, you can browse many related items. Additional circulating materials may include career series pamphlets (periodicals desk) and videos (1st floor). E-Books can be located using RaiderCat, for example, use the title index to search for "career starters".
PERIODICALS (magazine & journal articles)
Subscriptions arrive at intervals depending on their publication schedules. The term magazine refers to popular publications. Journals contain articles written by scholars and experts. Using journal sources usually makes your position more persuasive. Use an index to locate contents within a periodical. Ask for current issues at the Periodicals Des, but please do not remove them from the building.
INTERNET RESOURCES
The library subscribes to selected resources for use by the GRCC community. Use Internet search tools to help you locate free web sites, job advertisements, and articles. Professional associations may post links for employment on their websites.
