PURPOSE
- To support faculty research about teaching and learning at GRCC.
- To create a community of faculty that will engage in dialogue about what research
(their own and others) has found about effecting teaching practice.
- To provide opportunities for faculty to reflect on their own teaching practices and share with each other in a community of practice.
- To inform the college about best practices in teaching and learning.
OVERVIEW
The new Institute for Faculty Research on Teaching and Learning is managing the FIPSE research grant project and other faculty-developed research projects. The work is under the leadership of Patti Trepkowski, Associate Provost/Dean of Instructional Support and Interdisciplinary Studies, and Dr. Frank Conner.

Three additional FIPSE Learning Circles begin meeting this winter - Critical Thinking, Technology and Culture of Poverty.

Faculty Research Grant Opportunities Announced The purpose of these grants is to provide GRCC faculty with resources to investigate questions about their own practice of teaching and the impact of this work on student learning.

EVENTS
Faculty Formation Series This new series (for faculty only) will include three, three day retreats. The first three day retreat will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 9th and end with lunch on Saturday, November 11th, 2007. This retreat will be held at the Kettunen Center www.kettunencenter.org near Cadillac. The second session will be February 1st – 3rd, again at Kettunen. The final retreat will be June 1st – 3rd. This retreat will be at the Fetzer owned GilChrist Retreat Center near Three Rivers. To register for this series of retreats, please contact Wanda Blanco at wblanco@grcc.edu or call her at 616.234.4547. You must commit to all three retreats (November 2007, February 2008, & June 2008.) Space is limited and participation is on a first come – first served basis.
