Hot Keys for Monitor Rotation Software
All rotational modes are available via a hot key combination. Pressing all the keys in the key combination simultaneously will initiate the rotational action defined.
Ctrl + Shift + R rotates to the next available orientation in the sequence (0, 90, 180, 270).
Ctrl + Shift + 0 rotates the screen to landscape mode. (Default monitor configuration).
Ctrl + Shift + 9 rotates the screen to portrait mode.
Ctrl + Shift + 8 rotates the screen to presentation mode (content is upside down).
Ctrl + Shift + 7 rotates the screen to portrait mode.
Faculty Laptop Project
This project was started with a pilot phase and has now expanded to include a larger segment of faculty. The pilot phase included 25 faculty members. Now expanded into a project, the second phase engages an additional 85 faculty with 3 entire departments being equipped with laptops. Finally, the third and last phase involves equipping the remainder of full time faculty with mobile technology, thereby ensuring all full time faculty have access to the same powerful teaching and learning with technology capabilities.
The laptop project was created to provide faculty with a laptop to use in teaching and learning. Why a laptop? A laptop is a versatile, convenient, highly portable anytime/anywhere tool for teaching, research, communication, productivity, and management to enhance the quality of instruction and student success!
PHASE IV (2007 - Current)
Current Status - Laptops Fully Deployed All full time faculty have been equipped with laptops. Sessions for learning how to use the laptops in teaching and learning are offered by the Learning Academy.
PHASE III (2006)
Deployment of Laptops Additional laptops have been ordered to be able to equip all faculty with mobile technology. The shipment is expected to arrive in September, 2006.
PHASE II (2006)
Deployment of Laptops As of July 26th, nearly all laptops have been deployed to the participants in Phase II. Training will accompany the distribution with some additional sessions to be offered in the Summer. A laptop help web site is available for how to information!
Training & User Groups The Learning Academy is preparing training opportunities for Summer. Open lab times, user groups, focus learning sessions (classroom uses, personal productivity, wireless how to, maximizing tablet features, etc.), and video highlights are also being considered.

Pass it On! - Tips from Phase I
"Don't forget to turn your wireless off when your laptop is in your docking station, or else you may not be able to print to your local printer." (And then, of course, the trick is remembering to turn your wireless back on when you truly want to be "wireless.")

"Be sure to have someone show you how to locate the Intel Proset Wireless (configuring/profiling) it will save a lot of time wasted to try to figure this out on your own.
Be sure to have someone walk you through how to project and the potential possibility to have to use your function F4 key to bring the image up. Don't panic...it will work!
Remember you can get at your GroupWise directly with the laptop...no need to use web based Groupwise any longer.
The VPN client affords you a chance to retrieve J:drive documents you need for your classroom from home. (I'm assuming this is o.k. with the powers that be, if it wasn't it wouldn't be on there :o)
Keep thinking creatively.....give time to how you currently teach a topic and think "how can I create a better visual medium to enhance learning"

- Try out using the umbi cord and your laptop on your own before using it in class.
- If you create links to a video clip through Powerpoint so that you can just click on the picture and the video will run, know that only works on your laptop. If for some reason you just use the computer in the classroom, you will need to bring along your video clips and play them separately.

PHASE II (2006) - Faculty Involved Phase I began with a pilot in May of 2005. As this pilot phase comes to a close, we are excited to begin the second phase of the laptop project for faculty. As part of Phase II, we will provide laptops to a new multidisciplinary group of faculty.
New this year is the plan to provide laptops to three departments: English, Social Science and Behavioral Science. We hope departments can learn together how using laptops supports their curriculum and their students' learning.

PHASE I (2005) - Invitation Letter & Agreement to Participate Maximizing the potential of technology to advance learning is a college-wide goal (Strategic Priority 4). The Learning Environment Team and the Learner Resources and Technology Solutions unit are working together to provide classroom faculty with a new opportunity to enhance student learning through the integration of technology in our classrooms. To begin this effort, we are initiating a pilot project that provides lightweight laptops for faculty to use in their offices and their classrooms. This project is funded with the technology portion of the classroom renovation work. This pilot project will help us identify issues and best practices associated with getting computers in the classroom and will guide the next decisions about classroom technology.
Faculty members who participate in this pilot project will receive a laptop computer, docking station, keyboard and flat screen monitor in exchange for their current PC. The laptops can be removed from the docking station and carried by instructors to their teaching or work areas. Faculty members will be scheduled to teach in classrooms that have projectors (or will be provided portable projectors) and Internet connections, and will receive training in the use of the equipment and the Blackboard course management system. The faculty members in this pilot project will work with a team of people, including instructional designers, media experts and librarians, to help them make the best use of technology to enhance student learning.
In return, the faculty member must agree to participate in the learning sessions, work with their instructional design team members, use the equipment in their teaching, use Blackboard in their teaching and provide periodic feedback to the Learning Environment Team about using laptops to enhance student learning. The learning sessions for Blackboard and using the technology will take no more than 3 hours. Follow up meetings will take no more than 2 hours per month. In this project, the faculty member learns and the college learns from the faculty member’s experience. Don’t worry about your current skill level in using classroom technology. We are seeking both experts and novices, since we know faculty learn best from each other and diverse experience levels provide both great questions and great answers.
