Office 2007, by default saves files in an incompatible format that cannot be opened by Office 2003. Office 2003 is currently GRCC's standard and is used by the majority of faculty. Please save your files to RTF format or to native 2003 format before submitting files to your instructor.

Problem

In Blackboard, students using IE8 may encounter a problem with timed tests, whereby the test timer covers the submit button.

Solution

Before beginning a test, students should check their browser version. If the browser is Internet Explorer 8, then we recommend taking one of the following actions BEFORE beginning a test on Blackboard.

Option 1: Use a different web browser

We recommend using Firefox with Blackboard. Firefox is an excellent, secure web browser that is FREE and is easy to download and install. To get Firefox, click here.

Option 2: Enable Compatibility View in Internet Explorer 8

Microsoft recommends enabling "Compatibility View" for specific Web sites that are not displayed correctly or that are not working correctly with IE8.

If you want to use IE8, follow these steps to enable Compatibility View in IE:

* Using IE8, log in to Blackboard.
* Click the Compatibility View button located to the right of the address bar, and next to the Refresh button.
* Log out of Blackboard.
* Exit Internet Explorer completely.
* Restart Internet Explorer 8, log in to Blackboard, and continue as normal.

More information on the Compatibility View is available here.
