TELECOURSES
Register for Telecourses just as you would for any other course at GRCC. Information is available from the Student Records Office.
Orientation sessions are offered at the beginning of each semester. At orientation you:

meet the instructor.

obtain textbook information.
-
receive the course syllabus.
-
have an opportunity to ask questions.
-
receive the broadcast schedule for your telecourse.
Telecourses may be delivered in one or more of these ways:
1. As a broadcast on Grand Rapids Comcast Channel 28
2. GE135 and HS101/102 are streamed free from the company. The GRCC Real Server streams content from the cable channel. Ask your instructor for details.
3. Taped sessions can be viewed in the library
4. A limited number of sets are for rent from the library; cost is $50/semester.
Telecourses provide flexibility, but require more self-discipline than conventional courses. As a Telecourse student, you choose when to view the programs, read the course material, complete required assignments, and take the tests.
Viewing telecourse sessions requires as much concentration as classroom instruction does. Choose a setting with minimal distractions and remember to take notes. If you are using tapes, you will be able to rewind and review the content.
Telecourses are produced by PBS in documentary style. Most are comprised of 26 to 30 half hour programs and are broadcast at least twice weekly. You may record broadcasts for personal use.
Your instructor will provide you with their office hours, office phone number, and an email address. Every instructor wants you to succeed, so contact your instructor when you need assistance.
Telecourse testing is restricted to the times listed on your syllabus. Grades are assigned with the same academic rigor and based on the same learning outcomes as traditional courses.
