| Project Mature Worker Project Mature Worker was a job training/employment assistance model demonstration project specifically designed for people 55 and older in the Western Michigan area. An initiative of the Grand Rapids Community College Older Learner Center in partnership with the Job Training Program of the GRCC Leslie E. Tassell Michigan Technical Education Center (M-TEC) with support from June 2006 through November 2007 from the Grand Rapids Community Foundation. The primary goal of Project Mature Worker was to provide mature workers with specialized job training and employment assistance for the contemporary workplace. To accomplish this, project staff worked with key service providers within the community to enhance the existing system and make it more user friendly, as well as host periodic open house events which made employment assistance and job training resources available to participants 55 and older who were underemployed or unemployed. A secondary goal of Project Mature Worker was to work with area employers to educate them on the benefits of retaining, hiring and training older workers. We continue to maintain this website as a community resource for those working in job training and employment assistance, as well as local employers, and unemployed or underemployed individuals 55 and older. |
