Carol VanRandwyk, Ph.D.
Dr. Carol VanRandwyk received a Bachelor of Music Degree in theory and composition in 1982, a Master of Music Degree in theory in 1984, and a Ph.D. in music composition in 1994 from Michigan State University. Carol has been teaching music theory and aural harmony courses to college students since 1989 when she first held a graduate teaching assistantship at Michigan State University. In addition to teaching at Michigan State for three years, Carol was part of the music faculty at Lansing Community College from fall of 1991 to spring of 1998. She held the position of Lead Faculty for the LCC music program from 1995 to 1998, which included academic and career advising for approximately fifty music majors, as well as academic scheduling, curriculum revision, budget processing and production assistance. Carol has taught piano privately in her home studio since 1971, and later at Lansing Community College. She has enjoyed being a classical dance, vocal, and instrumental accompanist, as well as a solo piano entertainer in the Lansing area. Dr. VanRandwyk has composed musical works for a variety of chamber ensembles. Carol was selected to perform her solo piano composition, Piano Roles, at the Third Festival of Women Composers at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, in March of 1993. Dr. VanRandwyk is a member of the MACRO Analysis Creative Research Organization (MACRO). She has been a reviewer for Musical Insights, the music theory journal of the MACRO organization. Her article, "Circles and Centrifugal Force", was published in the MACRO Circular, a music theory quarterly published by MACRO.
