Hours for Assessment Center Changing

August 28, 2009 - The Assessment Center will now be open from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am to 5:00 pm on Friday and 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturdays.

The Assessment Center will be closed on 8/31/09, reopening at 7:30 am on 9/1/09.


GRCC Tobacco Free Policy Update

August 12, 2009 - Effective September 14, 2009, GRCC Police Officers will begin issuing noncompliance warning tickets to students, faculty and staff not complying with the GRCC Tobacco Free Policy.

Details regarding compliance will be posted on the web at www.grcc.edu/tobaccofree and distributed in various locations at the beginning of the semester.


RaiderCard System Upgrade in Progress

August 3, 2009 - GRCC has gone live with the new RaiderCard system this morning, however currently there are still some systems that are not yet available:

  1. Student Parking: Parking for students will be free today (Monday, August 3). This function will be live on Tuesday, August 4.
  2. Deposits: There are 4 cash 2 card machines that are accepting deposits. These locations are; 1st floor Student Center, 1st floor Main, 4th floor Main and the 2nd floor of the ATC. These machines are accepting cash deposits only at this time. All other locations are temporarily unavailable. Users can make credit and debit card deposits using the RaiderCard tab in Blackboard. The cashiers office will not be able to accept deposits until Tuesday, August 11.
  3. Bookstore: The RaiderCard is NOT available in the Bookstore. We will send notification once this has changed.

GRCC Offers New Course in Innovation

July 24, 2009 - Grand Rapids Community College will debut a new course in innovation during the Fall 2009 semester. The class, which aims to teach students how to utilize creative thinking skills, will involve real-life business projects with local companies.

It will be taught by GRCC professor Felix Pereiro and offered on Wednesday afternoons in the Fall from 1:15 to 5:15 p.m. It is an exciting step in GRCC's work in designing and implementing curriculum in innovation.

Course Description:

BA 276 Business Innovation
This course introduces the student to business innovation and the innovation process from both historic and research perspectives. The role and nature of business innovation is to help take creative ideas and inventions to the next level of business implementation and application, in other words, real-market solutions. Business innovation is the process of commercializing ideas and inventions. That process is driven by an individuals ability to leverage both critical and creative thinking skills.

RaiderCard System Update / Service Outage

July 20, 2009 - The RaiderCard system is being upgraded to better serve students, and as a result it will be out of service from Thursday, July 30, 2009 until 8AM on Monday, August 3, 2009.

How will this down time impact students?

  • Student parking will be free during the down time.
  • Student printing will still be available.
  • All Campus Restaurants and departments will not accept the RaiderCard as method of payment during down time.
  • Cash-2-Card Machines, copy and vending readers will also not accept RaiderCards.
  • The RaiderCard tab on Blackboard will be disabled.
  • Students will not be able to make payments with their RaiderCards in the Cashier's Office.

GRCC employee parking and door access will not be affected. Questions regarding this upgrade may be directed to Paulo Teles.


Lyon St. Parking Ramp Closed to Students

July 13, 2009 - The Lyon St. Parking ramp student parking area will be closed to students until mid-August for repairs. For information on parking alternatives, visit www.grcc.edu/parking

Financial Aid Applications Due July 15, 2009

July 9, 2009 - Fall Semester Financial Aid Deadline is July 15, 2009. Students must have a complete, correct financial aid application in the Financial Aid Office by July 15 to be awarded aid for tuition payment prior to the start of Fall classes. Students who do not meet this deadline should be prepared to pay their tuition and fees with their own funds at the time they become due.


GRCC Online Center Down for Scheduled Maintenance 6/12 - 6/15

June 8, 2009 - GRCC's Online Center will be down for scheduled Maintenance from Friday, June 12 at 5pm until Monday, June 15 at 10am. Thank you for your patience while we improve our systems.


GRCC Online Systems Down for Maintenance Friday Night

May 28, 2009 - GRCC will be making some comprehensive upgrades on its systems Friday night beginning at 10:00pm. As a result, many network applications will be unavailable. Services are scheduled to be restored by 6:00am Saturday morning.

The systems affected will include:

  • Blackboard Learning Systems
  • The Online Student Center (All Test/DEV PeopleSoft)
  • The Resume Mirror
  • Home and shared data drives ( J:, S:, etc)
  • Vista VM workstations ( Instructional )
  • Helix Server (certain videos)

Assessment Center and Disability Testing Center Temporarily Moving

May 26, 2009 - Two offices on GRCC's campus will temporarily be moving:

  • Assessment Center: From June 5, 2009 to August 15, 2009 the Assessment Center will be temporarily relocated to room 103 in the Science Building. The Assessment Center will be closed on June 4 2009 for moving reopening June 5 at 8:00 am. Please contact Gloria Thomas with any questions or concerns. gthomas@grcc.edu.
  • Disability Testing Center: From June 1, 2009 to August 15, 2009 the Disability Testing Center will be temporarily relocated to rooms 109-114 in the Science Building. The Disability Testing Center will be closed after 11:00 am on June 1, 2009 for moving reopening at 7:30 am on June 2. March 23, 2009 - Grand Rapids Community College regularly does research on its programs and services and invites everyone to participate in its brief 2009 Community Survey. New Classes Available for Summer, Fall

March 19, 2009 - GRCC has added a number of new classes for the upcoming Summer and Fall semesters:

Math (MA 133, MA 110, and MA 107 - all online)

New online sections of MA 133, MA 110, and MA 107 have just been added to the Summer schedule. [UPDATE: These class sections are now all full for Summer 2009.]

English (EN 291)

EN 291 Exploring English Grammar is a one credit course that will be offered Fall 2009 (October 7 to December 16) on Wednesdays from 2:00pm - 3:30pm. This course is perfect for the EN 100, EN 101, or EN 102 student who simply wants to brush up grammar or supplement other writing courses.


Study Abroad in Ireland 2009

March 2, 2009 - GRCC's Irish Studies program is offering a study abroad opportunity worth nine credit hours by taking three separate Irish Studies Program classes (offerings include Irish history, archeology, economics, politics, and conflict resolution.) The classes are online for the first few weeks in May, followed by three weeks of study and travel in Ireland.

Grand River Winds Rehearsal Cancelled 1/19/09

January 19, 2009 - Due to tonight's Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration events at GRCC, the Grand River Winds ensemble rehearsal scheduled for tonight has been cancelled.
