September 12, 2012, GRAND RAPIDS – Grand Rapids Community College announced the expansion of their museum partnership program to allow GRCC students and staff free admission to five area museums.
In January, officials with the college’s Student Life and Campus Activities departments entered into a partnership with the Grand Rapids Art Museum and the Grand Rapids Public Museum to provide free access for GRCC students. The partnership called for a trial period, from Jan. 23 to April 28, 2012. Based on the success of the pilot, this program has now been expanded to include 5 local museums. Under the new agreement, all current GRCC students and employees now have FREE general admission access to all the following downtown cultural organizations with their GRCC Raider Card:
- Grand Rapids Public Museum
- Grand Rapids Art Museum
- Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts
- Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum
- Grand Rapids Children’s Museum
“This expanded partnership provides yet another way for GRCC to help extend our students’ learning outside of the classroom,” said Eric Mullen, student life director. “It is an incredible opportunity for them to take advantage of and gain exposure to cultural experiences that could enhance their college experience. Faculty have been quick to identify ways that they can connect their course with the museums to increase students in active learning experiences within our community.”
