Salute to Women Award | Jerry Benham Award | Student Employee of the Year
- To honor GRCC women who are exemplary in their roles as professional, volunteers or agents of change
- To celebrate the diversity of the accomplishments of women throughout the College
- To encourage young women to pursue pathways to achievement
Eligibility:
GRCC women (alumna, students, employees, and former employees)
Method of Recognition:
- Awards presented by President at Annual Salute to Women Reception held in March
- Picture boards with professional photographs on display throughout Campus of each recipient
- Publication in GRCC TODAY
Nomination process:
There are four nomination categories: GRCC Alumna, GRCC Student, GRCC Employee, and Former GRCC Employee. Nominations include a completed nomination form as well as any of the following: a written narrative, a list of the nominee's accomplishments, letters of support, or news articles (submitting supporting documents will enhance the nominee's chances of being selected). Nominations can be submitted in hard copy or electronically on the GRCC homepage and are due in late November (specific date will be published by the Diversity Learning Center).
Criteria*:
- Commitment to community service as evidenced by time and resources given
- Achievement within her professional or community noted by her impact, demonstrated success, recognition by her peers, and the difference she makes to others
- Leadership indicated by her innovation, strength, flexibility, and risk-taking
- Empowers and inspires other women as a mentor, role model, and friend
- Has a positive impact on and is involved with students
*Not all suggested criteria are necessary, nor is this list intended to be limiting
Selection process:
Nominations are reviewed by the Salute to Women planning committee. Their recommendation is submitted to the President of GRCC for final approval.

Purpose:
To honor an employee who has demonstrated outstanding involvement in student activities on campus.
Eligibility:
Any current GRCC employee
Method of Recognition:
- Award presented at the annual Student Leadership Program in March of each year
- Personalized plaque
- $100
- Name and picture published in GRCC TODAY
Criteria:
The nominee:
- actively supports students
- acts as a mentor and role model for leadership development
- gives time and human resources selflessly
- is an advocate for students
- projects a positive attitude and image towards students and other GRCC community members
- develops and encourages students' thoughts and ideas
- is not involved in student activities as part of his or her job
- has not received the award in consecutive years
Nomination process:
Any member of GRCC (student, faculty, staff, or Board of Trustee member) can nominate a qualified current staff or faculty member for this award. Nomination forms are available from the Students Activities Office or the GRCC webpage. Nominations are due into the Student Activities Office by mid-February.
Selection process:
The Director of Student Activities solicits members of the selection committee from GRCC students, faculty and staff to review nominations and select a recipient.

Purpose:
To honor a student employee who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in the areas of reliability, quality of work, initiative, and professionalism.
Method of Recognition:
- Personalized plaque
- Check for $250
- Publication in GRCC TODAY
- Name submitted for state and national level recognition
Eligible:
Any student employee who has been employed for a minimum of six months.
Selection Criteria:
- Reliability
- Quality of Work
- Initiative
- Professionalism
- Uniqueness of Contribution
(In case of a tie, uniqueness of contribution should be the deciding factor)
Nomination Process: (See Appendix C for form)
A completed nomination form along with a separate Nomination Letter and worksheet describing the accomplishments of the nominee keeping in mind the above selection criteria should be submitted by mid-February (exact date will be published in GRCC TODAY). The Nomination Letter should be as comprehensive as possible to give the nominee the best chance to win this award.
Selection Process:
A team comprised of four Grand Rapids Community College staff members will evaluate the nomination letters focusing mainly on the four qualities of reliability, quality of work, initiative, and professionalism.
