GRCC TO PROVIDE CRITICAL WORKFORCE TRAINING
FOR MEGA FUNDING RECIPIENTS
ENERGETX COMPOSITES AND INTEGRATED FABRIC RESOURCE

June 17, 2009 Grand Rapids, MI - Grand Rapids Community College and Ottawa County Michigan Works will have a critical role in readying workers for the new jobs that MEGA funding recipients Energetx Composites and Integrated Fabric Resource will create. Some training will begin as early as July.

Dan Clark, GRCC’s dean of the Lakeshore Campus locations in Ottawa County, said that GRCC is now a regular at the table when entities sit down to discuss economic development opportunities. “The fact that GRCC has a strong track record in being able to look at what a business needs and create customized training classes, is often just the added value that makes West Michigan look more attractive to a business than another location,” he said.

Energetx Composites, located in Holland, will draw on their experience of building composite materials for the marine industry and begin making parts for a variety of green industries, focusing on making blades and housings for wind turbines, as well as other composites for the transportation sector. GRCC is working with both Energetx Composites and Ottawa County Michigan Works to prepare workers for this work and expects to roll out a composite technician program beginning in Winter 2010.

Integrated Fabric Resource, located in Zeeland, will be manufacturing a Flexitank® line of products for use in packaging and shipping around the world. GRCC is also developing customized courses to support the production of these products.

Michigan Works will take the lead on employee screenings and assessments to evaluate which employees need retraining to fill the anticipated new jobs. Hiring inquiries should be directed to Ottawa County Michigan Works.

Grand Rapids Community College’s Workforce Training provides continuing education, professional development and customized training all over Michigan.

In 2008, GRCC’s Training Solutions division trained over 9,000 people. Training areas include, but are not limited to, alternative energy, health care, business and entrepreneurship, innovation, manufacturing, and sustainable construction.
