Grand Rapids, Mich., January 21, 2009: Anthony (Tony) Annese, long time Head Coach for the Muskegon Big Reds and three time state champions in last five years, has been chosen as the Head Football Coach for the Grand Rapids Community College Raiders, according to Co-Athletic Director Doug Wabeke.
“We are excited to have Coach Annese on board and we feel he’ll help keep the GRCC Football program amongst the elite nationally for a long time to come,” Wabeke said, adding that the college had conducted a national search.
Coach Annese comes to GRCC after 22 successful years as a Head Coach in West Michigan where he has compiled a career record of 195-41, besides three state championships, his team has also been ranked in the top twenty-five nationally for four of the last five years.
The Raiders are also getting a Coach who has presented at the following clinics: Mega Clinic, Glazier Clinics, Nike Coach of the Year Clinics, The University of Michigan Clinic, Purdue University Clinic and the Michigan State University Clinic.
Annese is only the 7th Head Coach in the long history of GRCC Raider football, replacing Jim Schulte (6 years), Fred Julian (18 years), Gordie Hunsburger (31 years) and three others. GRCC is the only community college in Michigan to have a football team.
Annese will be available for media interviews at GRCC Thursday, January 22, from 9 – 11 a.m. Please call 234-4206 for an appointment.
