GRCC Corrects Inaccurate Tuition Report
Grand Rapids, Mich., Feb. 3, 2009 -- In a story in their early edition, The Grand Rapids Press erroneously reported that tuition at Grand Rapids Community College has “gone up 25% this year.”
“The correct information [now corrected on the newspapers website] is that tuition at GRCC has gone up 25% since the 2003-2004 school year,” said Vice President of Business and Financial Services Bob Partridge. “The most our tuition has ever had to rise in any academic year since 2004 was 8.5%; the lowest raise in that time was 1.5%.”
“This is an egregious error,” said GRCC Interim President, Dr. Anne Mulder. “Our whole mission as a community college is to make higher education accessible to all, and we have made every financial decision here over the last nine decades based on keeping our door open to everyone. I hope the public will recognize that even the idea of a 25% increase in one year is outlandish based on what they know about GRCC.”
