PEACE PRIZE LAUREATE WILL ADDRESS GRCC AUDIENCE
BY VIDEO TUESDAY NIGHT
May 11, 2009 – Grand Rapids, MI - Nobel Peace laureate John Hume will not be able to present the keynote address at GRCC’s Peace and Reconciliation Conference Tuesday evening, May 12. Due to illness, Hume has been confined to bed rest at his home in Ireland.
Fellow peace process worker, Jon McCort, in addition to his presentation “From Bloody Sunday to Community Reconciliation: My Life Between Conflict and Peace,” will accept, on Hume’s behalf, the Presidential Medallion from GRCC’s new president, Dr. Steven Ender. Hume has sent a video message for the GRCC audience.
Also during the dinner, internationally acclaimed Grand Rapids artist, Paul Collins will present Hume with a piece of his artwork to honor Hume’s efforts to use nonviolent methods to change the world and advance the causes of civil rights, freedom and peace.
