GRCC Media Team Wins Two National Telly Awards
February 5, 2009 – Grand Rapids, MI - GRCC Media Technologies Department was awarded two Telly Awards, one silver and one bronze, for two productions submitted in 2008.
The Telly Silver is granted to less than 10% of an annual entry pool of around 14,000; the Bronze to less than 25%. Entrants that include major broadcast and cable networks, production houses and studios from around the country.
The Silver Telly Award was given for an instructional piece designed for GRCC’s Innovation Curriculum. Entitled "Synthesis," it is the original component of an online class developed by GRCC's office of Continuing Education. The production provides a comprehensive overview of the behaviors related to this characteristic of innovation, and involved many GRCC staff in it’s coordination, production and on-camera roles. The Bronze Telly was received in the short documentary category for the piece Cuba: Reaching Forward, Caught in the Past. Through the work of local non profit, First Hand Aid, this piece conveys the struggles of families in Cuba and feature GRCC professor Keith St. Clair. Grand Rapids Community College produces many instructional pieces for in class and online, the college’s commercials for TV and radio, as well as some work for strategic partners of the college.

Grand Rapids Community College, established in 1914, offers both liberal arts and workforce development degrees, classes and workshops. Student enrollment on the urban campus for both credit and non-credit courses is approximately 26,000 this year.
