GRCC INCLUDED IN TIME MAGAZINE ARTICLE ON YOUTUBE “EDU”
April 17, 2009 – Grand Rapids, MI – Grand Rapids Community College was cited along with Harvard Business School as one of the prime examples of how free education is delivered online through YouTube’s new “EDU” hub in the April 16, 2009 issue of Time Magazine article titled “Logging On to the Ivy League” by Andrea Ford.
GRCC is one of the few higher education institutions in Michigan with a YouTube site. It’s also one of the major educational players on YouTube EDU, boasting more content posted than Harvard Business School and Stanford and nearly as much as much as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
The content on GRCC’s YouTube site is made possible by the college’s Media Technologies department which cooperates with several local educational institutions (including the Grand Rapids Public Schools, Calvin College, Aquinas, Cooley, Western Michigan University, Michigan State University, Kendall College and Ferris State University, as well as GVSU’s Hauenstein Center) with the local educational access channels and the Higher Education Television Association (HETA) partnership.
Programming on GRCC’s YouTube channel includes GRCC’s annual diversity lecture series, the World Affairs Council’s Great Decision Series, Aquinas’ Contemporary Authors series and many other local higher education presentations, ceremonies and visiting speakers.
Grand Rapids Community College, established in 1914, offers both liberal arts and workforce development degrees, classes and workshops. Student enrollment on the urban campus for both credit and non-credit courses is approximately 26,000 this year.
