Grand Rapids Community College and West Ottawa Public Schools
Sign Agreement To Offer College Classes

JANUARY 26, 2009 - GRAND RAPIDS, MI – During their regular board meeting on Monday, January 26, West Ottawa Public Schools (WOPS) Superintendent Dr. Patricia Koeze and Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) Interim President Dr. Anne Mulder will sign a formal agreement which will open the door to expanded college classes offered in West Ottawa North High School.

West Ottawa North High School has been one of the sites used by GRCC Lakeshore Campus since 2006, but the new agreement allows for dedicated classroom space so that GRCC can now offer day classes as well as night classes, making it more convenient for area residents to obtain a college education.

“We know that higher education is no longer a luxury, but essential to individuals’ success in life and we know that an educated workforce is crucial to the life of our state,” said Dr. Mulder. “The generosity of West Ottawa Schools makes it easier for GRCC to offer those opportunities to people nearer their homes and jobs.”

The WOPS Board meeting begins at 7 p.m. at West Ottawa Public Schools Administration Building, 1138 136th Ave, Holland, MI 49424 and the signing of the agreement will be during the first hour.

Established in 1914, Grand Rapids Community College has provided service to Ottawa County since 1989. Today, GRCC provides classes at the Mid Town Center, West Ottawa North High School, the Holland GVSU Meijer Campus, OAISD Careerline Tech Center, and the Patrick A. Thompson M-TEC. For information about classes please contact 616-234-2200 or go to grcc.edu/lakeshore.
