Bio - Dr. Steven C. Ender
In August 2005, Dr. Steven C. Ender became the fifth president of Westmoreland County Community College. During his more than 30 years in higher education, Dr. Ender has held numerous teaching, counseling and administrative positions and has published extensively in refereed journals as well as textbooks. His most recent professional position prior to the WCCC presidency was serving as executive deputy to the president of Indiana University of Pennsylvania serving in a chief-of-staff position as well as having responsibility for the university budget and the university’s planning process. A Richmond, Virginia native, Dr. Ender holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Virginia Commonwealth University; master’s and doctoral degrees in education from the University of Georgia and has completed post-doctoral studies at The Snowmass Institute in Snowmass, Colorado and Harvard University.
Among his honors and achievements, Dr. Ender was named to the National Advisory Board for “Helping Teens Succeed,” a college transition program in 2002, and received the Pennsylvania Association for Developmental Educators Award for Research and Publication in 1998 and the Award of Excellence from the Manchester Craftstmen’s Guild of Pittsburgh in 1993. As a young man, he achieved Eagle Scout status.
Within his profession, Dr. Ender was appointed and serves on the Economic and Workforce Development Commission of the American Association of Community Colleges, the Life Long Learning Commission of The American Council on Education and serves on the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges. He also serves on the board of the National Junior College Athletic Association as a presidential representative and on the board of the Pennsylvania Campus Compact.
Active in the community, he serves on the board of directors for the Westmoreland County Area Labor Management Committee, Westmoreland/Fayette county Workforce Investment Board, the Economic Growth Connection, Westmoreland Chamber of Commerce and United Way of Westmoreland County. He is also a member of the Greensburg Rotary and Westmoreland Heritage.
Dr. Ender resides with his wife, Karen Gislason Ender, in Greensburg and is the father of two adult children, Joanna DiCiurcio and Mason Ender.
