GRCC and The Right Place, Inc. Collaborate to Provide Market Diversification Courses:
New Market Diversification Options for West Michigan Businesses

Grand Rapids, Michigan -- (March 5, 2009) – Grand Rapids Community College’s (GRCC) new Market Diversification Program is the latest addition to an expanding portfolio of products and services offered in West Michigan. The Right Place offers several complementary diversification programs that focus on companies and company-to-company learning through a project or user group environment.

GRCC and The Right Place, Inc.’s Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center West (MMTC-West) have leveraged a longstanding partnership to provide this new level of support for West Michigan businesses.

“As we continue to collaborate with The Right Place, we discovered there was an unmet need for colleges to find new ways to assist West Michigan businesses develop the skills to make informed decisions on what new markets to pursue,” said Anne Mulder, Interim President of GRCC.

The new Market Diversification Program at GRCC provides individual-based learning on finding new customers, markets and becoming an innovation leader. These workshops provide participants with the tools and processes necessary to grow business today and into the future.

Specific components of this new program include: Strategic Development (establishing an underlying foundation for focused diversification), Innovation Management (translating core competencies to form new business innovation), and Commercialization Strategies (assistance in commercializing new ideas).

“With the addition of GRCC’s program, our West Michigan businesses have several options, from individual learning to highly customized, on-site training,” said Birgit Klohs, President and CEO of The Right Place, Inc. “Our partnership with GRCC continues to produce new and valuable resources for workforce development throughout the region.”

Grand Rapids Community College, established in 1914, offers both liberal arts and workforce development degrees, classes and workshops. Student enrollment on the urban campus for both credit and non-credit courses is approximately 26,000 this year.
