COMMUNITY

The ASLC works from the framework of developing Community Partnerships with few community organizations on the basis of creating higher quality learning experiences. Partnerships are designed to evolve over a 3-year period allowing for an increase in communication, better planning and coordination, and the ability to identify and measure agreed upon outcomes. Community Partners have the ability and are encouraged to participate in all program areas offered by the ASLC: Academic Service-Learning, Community Service Work-Study, AmeriCorps (MSS), and Volunteering at GRCC.

Why Partnership?
1. Helps to balance issues of capacity. It is our desire to avoid any extra work upon our community partners in order to accommodate random students needing service experience.
2. We emphasize quality not quantity. We take into consideration of what our community partners threshold for capacity (supervision, space, etc.) is so that a quality service experience is provided without diluting the experience in order to accommodate additional students.
3. To assure successful experiences every relationship needs good communication. By partnering with the Center, we can provide more meaningful experiences by creating appropriate trainings, workshops, orientations necessary so that everyone is working from the same framework.
