Accuplacer Test
What is the Accuplacer Test?
The Accuplacer placement test is for students who are planning on attending Grand Rapids Community College. This test is a computerized assessment designed to help to identify your basic skill level in Reading, English and Math.
The Accuplacer is not a pass or fail test. The results will assist you and your Academic Advisor to develop an appropriate academic plan at GRCC and will determine what classes best fit you and your academic needs.

Who needs to take the Accuplacer Test?
Individuals who have applied to GRCC and do not have a 2.0 GPA on their High School Transcripts and an 18 or higher sub score on the ACT tests in English, Math, and Reading.
Individuals who have applied to GRCC with a College Transcript, but don't have a 2.0 overall GPA and/or 12 credits or more earned.
What subjects does the Accuplacer Test cover?
Reading Comprehension This test contains 20 questions. Some ask you to decide how two sentences are related. Questions are answered after reading passages of various lengths.
Writing The essay test asks for the type of academic writing you are likely to experience as part of your college coursework.
Math (Elementary Algebra, Arithmetic) Students will take at least one and possibly both of the 12-17 question Math tests.

The College Board - Overview and Sample Questions
Score Reporting
When you have completed the tests, you will see a report of your scores on the screen and you will receive a printed report of your scores. You will also receive recommended courses for you to enroll in.
Confidentiality
Your test scores and the information you provide when taking the tests will only be provided to The College Board and to Grand Rapids Community College. The information may be used for counseling, advisement and placement purposes only.

Off-site Accuplacer Testing
Accuplacer testing can be done at an institution other than GRCC. It is the student's responsibility to find a school that will administer the test. If a school is found and you choose this option, a request form must be completed and submitted to GRCC.
